Job Description

Job Overview

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to oversee heavy civil construction projects from inception through completion. This role is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Project Manager will develop and manage project budgets, create detailed schedules, oversee resource allocation, conduct site inspections, review construction plans and specifications, identify project risks, and implement proactive solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex heavy civil projects throughout South Carolina.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Foster a collaborative team environment with General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all phases of heavy civil construction projects.

  • Define project objectives, scope, schedules, and deliverables in alignment with client requirements.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation plans.

  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, architects, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.

  • Manage procurement activities, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and vendor selection.

  • Oversee project cost control, forecasting, and change order management.

  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

  • Maintain effective communication with project teams and stakeholders.

  • Create and manage project budgets using company cost-control processes.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

  • Prepare weekly project status reports.

  • Manage project documentation, including submittals, RFIs, and correspondence.

  • Prepare monthly customer invoices.

  • Participate in monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reviews.

  • Maintain project records and documentation within SharePoint.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Submit expense reports and supporting documentation accurately and on time.

  • Review timesheets for payroll accuracy and job cost coding.

  • Support business development efforts with developers, mining clients, and DOT agencies.

  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring activities.

  • Support maintenance of MSHA compliance documentation.

  • Attend all required company, OSHA, and MSHA training programs.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.

  • Maintain a reliable personal vehicle for company-related travel.

Key Duties

  • Develop comprehensive project execution plans, including procurement and resource strategies.

  • Coordinate and oversee construction activities to ensure adherence to plans and schedules.

  • Evaluate and select subcontractors based on qualifications, experience, and value.

  • Track project performance through key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage project documentation, contracts, permits, drawings, and change orders.

  • Facilitate project meetings and resolve issues impacting project success.

  • Provide timely project updates regarding schedule, budget, risks, and milestones.
